Gainly

Changelog

New features, improvements, and fixes to Gainly.

  1. Clearer page headers and empty states Improved

Overview, Trades, Gains, and Simulate now share consistent page headers, with empty states centred in the available space. Device records have fewer repeated labels, and the footer copyright is centred on mobile.

  2. Read exported trades in asset order Improved

CSV exports group trades alphabetically by asset, with the oldest trades first within each asset. Each holding's history stays together, including when separate assets share a name.

  3. Save trades for existing holdings Fixed

Fixed an error that could prevent adding or editing a trade when an existing holding was selected in the trade form.

  4. See the selected year above your gains Improved

The selected tax year now appears as a heading above your Gains results, aligned on the left. Choose a year from the dropdown or step through years using the labelled Previous year and Next year controls. Navigation sits separately on the right, moving below the heading on narrow screens.

  5. Manage trades from your holdings Improved

Each holding now has an actions menu. Add a trade with that asset already selected, or view its trades to review and edit existing records. Separate assets with the same name keep their own selection and trade history.

  6. Keep same-day trades in time order Improved

Add an optional time when recording or editing a trade. The Trades list uses recorded times to order trades within the same date, and CSV exports include a Time column that can be imported again.

Times use the 24-hour clock, with optional seconds. Leave the time blank if it is unknown. When sorting oldest first, untimed trades appear before timed trades on the same day; newest first reverses that order. Matching and tax years continue to use the trade date only.

  7. Follow changes to Gainly New

A public changelog brings together new features, improvements, and fixes, including a dated history of earlier releases. Matching changes explain which results may be affected and when to review your working papers.

Entries are labelled New, Improved, or Fixed so you can quickly find the changes that matter to you.

  8. Keep separate portfolios for different people New

You can now manage different people’s trades in one account. Each person has their own holdings, matching results, and annual exemption position.

Switch people from the sidebar, alongside navigation to Overview, Trades, Gains, and Simulate. People can be managed in Settings. When saving device trades to an account, choose whose records they belong to.

  9. Find assets you no longer hold Improved

Overview now lists disposed assets below your current holdings, with the last disposal date and a link to the asset’s trades. Disposals include sales and spouse transfers.

Matching details and sale simulations also use clearer, open sections so related figures stay together.

  10. Trade filters stay responsive Fixed

Fixed a freeze when changing trade filters while results were loading. You can continue adjusting filters as the trade list updates.

  11. Identify shares and funds by ISIN or SEDOL New

Add ISIN or SEDOL identifiers when recording or importing shares and funds. Gainly uses these identifiers to distinguish assets and shows them alongside asset names.

Review existing records that use different names for the same asset before relying on the matching results.

  12. More checks before adding imported trades Improved

CSV import now records the source account, supports transaction IDs, and asks you to confirm that prices and fees are in GBP. Rows explicitly marked with a different currency must be converted before importing.

Import checks help identify repeated records and flag incomplete trade history for review.

  13. Recover after a site update Fixed

If an older open tab cannot load a page after a deployment, Gainly now attempts to reload it so you can continue.

  14. Clearer CSV import and export guidance Improved

Import guidance now explains how to bring in CSV trade records and match their columns. Trade exports remain available so you can keep a copy of your records or use them elsewhere.

  15. Read practical capital gains guides New

New public guides explain share and crypto matching, Section 104 pooling, and preparing trade records. They are available without an account, alongside the matching method page.

  16. Easier two-factor verification Improved

Authenticator code entry is easier to use, and you can sign out directly from the verification screen.

  17. Record fund equalisation and notional income New

You can record equalisation and notional income as adjustments to a fund’s Section 104 pool cost. They change the allowable cost used for later disposals without changing the units held.

If these adjustments apply to your funds, add them to your records and review the resulting gains before using your working papers.

  18. Try Gainly before creating an account New

You can record trades and explore matching with records kept on this device. Creating an account copies these guest trades into your account.

Simulate a sale now uses a price you enter and your current Section 104 average cost for this tax year. It replaces the former live-price tools; Gainly no longer fetches market prices or shows unrealised gains.

  19. Understand the matching and data handling Improved

Public method and privacy pages now explain how Gainly matches disposals and handles guest and account records.

  20. More accurate matching across days and tax years Fixed

Updated matching for same-day acquisitions, the 30-day window, spouse transfers, and selling fees. The annual exemption is applied separately to each tax year when viewing results across years.

Results are calculated from your recorded trades when you view them. If you previously exported working papers involving these cases, compare them with the updated results.

    • Same-day acquisitions use an average cost for that day.
    • The 30-day window follows calendar days, and spouse transfers are processed in date order.
    • Selling fees reduce disposal proceeds.
  21. Historical update: market-price tools New

Market-price lookup tools were added for crypto, shares, and funds. These tools were subsequently removed on 20 September 2026 and are no longer available.

For a hypothetical sale today, use Simulate and enter your own sale price.

  22. Choose your preferred appearance Improved

Settings now offers light, dark, and system appearance options.

  23. Gainly’s first release New

Gainly launched with trade recording, CSV imports, and disposal matching for UK shares and crypto. Holdings show Section 104 pool costs, and gains can be reviewed by tax year.

  24. Record spouse transfers and organise trades New

Added spouse transfers, asset categories, trade notes, and category support in CSV imports. Bulk category changes help organise multiple records together.
